About Citizen Theatre
Citizen Theatre produces new works that share new and authentic perspectives through solo and small cast shows.
Citizen Theatre believes that theatre empowers people and creates community and thus should be accessible and approachable. If there’s a barrier to sharing or hearing a story, we want to break it down.
Citizen Theatre follows three rules: Be Safe, Be Kind, and Have Fun.
Be Safe: Create safe spaces for exploration and performance. Consent, communication, and care are a must at Citizen Theatre.
Be Kind: Be generous and open to all who interact with the work, remembering that everyone has their own unique perspective to bring to the table.
Have Fun: Be wild! Get creative. Throw something at the wall, and see if it sticks!
Everyone is a Citizen.
ALEXA R. MCGINN
Creative Director
Once described by a legitimate authority figure as “delightfully strange”, Alexa is a Canadian actor, playwright, and writer.
She founded Citizen Theatre in 2021, after graduating with a BFA in Drama from the University of Calgary. Alexa’s work celebrates the often unsung truth that it is our uniqueness that makes us the most alike.
When she isn’t making theatre, she enjoys reading big books, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and cuddling cute cats.
“I was immediately drawn in to McGinn’s performance; she has a sharp and witty style.” - Emily Welch, Nexus Newspaper
